WHAT TO KNOW

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers about virtual therapy, TOP coverage, licensed therapists, scheduling, privacy, and what to expect when getting started with Telemynd.

Who can request therapy through Telemynd?

Telemynd provides virtual therapy to TRICARE Overseas Program beneficiaries located in Puerto Rico. This includes members and family members whose TRICARE coverage is administered through the Overseas Program.

Our team will confirm your coverage information and explain any required next steps before your first appointment.

Do I need a referral or authorization?

Active-duty service members and activated National Guard or Reserve members must receive a referral and pre-authorization before beginning therapy with a civilian provider. Your primary care manager coordinates these requirements.

Requirements for other TOP beneficiaries depend on the TRICARE plan and type of service. Non-active-duty beneficiaries do not need a referral for routine outpatient mental health visits, but Telemynd will review the applicable requirements with you before therapy begins.

What types of therapy are available?

Telemynd offers individual, couples, family, and child and adolescent therapy. Therapy may address anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief, relationships, family transitions, school-related concerns, sleep difficulties, burnout, and other challenges affecting daily life.

This program currently provides therapy only. Psychiatry and medication management are not currently available.

Can my spouse, child, or another family member receive therapy?

Yes. TOP family members in Puerto Rico can request therapy for their own needs. Telemynd offers individual, couples, and family therapy, along with child and adolescent therapy for ages 5 and older.

A family member does not need to attend therapy with the service member. For children and adolescents, a parent or legal guardian will participate in the intake and consent process, with ongoing involvement based on the child’s age and clinical needs.

Will my therapist be licensed to provide therapy in Puerto Rico?

Yes. Telemynd will match you with a licensed therapist who is authorized to provide therapy in Puerto Rico.

We consider your needs, preferences, scheduling availability, and the type of therapy you are requesting when making the match.

What will therapy cost?

Your out-of-pocket cost, if any, depends on your TRICARE plan, beneficiary category, and applicable deductibles or cost-shares. Any required referral or authorization may also affect coverage.

Telemynd will review your coverage information and help you understand the expected next steps before therapy begins.

What happens after I request therapy?

A member of the Telemynd team will contact you to learn more about what you are looking for, review your coverage information, and identify any referral or authorization requirements.

We will then work to match you with a Puerto Rico-licensed therapist based on your needs, preferences, and availability. Once matched, you will receive instructions for scheduling and joining your secure virtual appointments.

Is virtual therapy private?

Telemynd provides therapy through a secure virtual platform and handles your health information in accordance with applicable healthcare privacy requirements.

Information may be shared when needed for treatment, payment, healthcare operations, or when otherwise required or permitted by law. Your therapist can explain confidentiality and its limits before therapy begins.

What should I do if I need immediate help?

Telemynd’s virtual therapy service is not an emergency or crisis response service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

For immediate emotional crisis assistance, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Active-duty members and military families may also use the appropriate Military Crisis Line option available for their location.
